Flag printing
Digital printing: cost-effective for small runs
Digital printing works like printing on your own printer. The blank flag fabric passes through a printer whose print heads spray the ink directly onto the fabric. The machine is compact and the number of colours doesn’t matter, because all colours come from the print heads.
Advantages of digital printing:
- More cost-effective for small quantities
- Very fine detail, also in colourful designs, colour gradients and photos
Screen printing: cost-effective for larger runs
A screen printing machine is a long device of approximately 20 metres. The flag fabric is unrolled and laid on the machine’s worktable. Above it, the screen moves along a track.
How it works:
- A separate screen is made for each colour, the same size as the flag.
- This screen is blocked off in advance, except for the areas where the ink needs to pass through.
- The screen is placed over the blank flag fabric and ink (one colour) is poured on.
- The ink only passes through the open parts of the screen, exactly in the desired shape.
- The screen then moves on to the next section of flag to be printed.
This is repeated for each colour in your design.
Advantages of screen printing:
- More cost-effective for larger quantities: from 10 pieces for a one-colour design, or from 25 pieces for two colours
- More intense, solid colours
- Sharp, even surfaces and lines
- Better ink penetration to the reverse side
Ink show-through
As standard, a flag is printed on one side only. The design is therefore also visible on the back, but mirrored. With screen printing, the show-through is generally stronger than with digital printing.
Double-sided flags for outdoor use are generally not made, as they would be “too heavy” and could wear out faster.
For indoor use, we make protocol flags. These are double-sided, so that the coat of arms on a national flag is displayed correctly.
In short: choose digital printing for small runs and designs with many colours or fine details. Choose screen printing for larger quantities with one or two colours and intense colour rendering.
